Meinl SB400 Super Soft Mallets: a handmade soft felt head on a 5A hickory handle, ideal for cymbal swells.

Super Soft Felt for Gentle, Warm Mallet Tones

The Meinl SB400 Super Soft Felt Mallet is designed for drummers and percussionists who need the warmest, most gentle tone possible from their gongs, suspended cymbals, or bass drums. The extra-soft felt head produces a smooth, round attack with generous sustain — ideal for swells, ambient builds, and delicate orchestral-style passages.

The super soft felt compresses generously on impact, reducing the initial transient and allowing the instrument’s natural tone to bloom fully. The balanced wooden handle offers comfortable grip for both single strikes and extended rolling techniques across large resonant surfaces.

  • Super Soft Felt Head: Maximum compression on impact for the warmest, most rounded attack with generous bloom and sustain.

  • Gong and Cymbal Optimised: Ideal for building swells on large gongs, suspended cymbals, and orchestral bass drums.

  • Ambient and Orchestral Use: The go-to mallet for cinematic rolls, gentle swells, and dynamics-sensitive playing contexts.

Why buy from The Bangalore Drum Shop

  • Play it before you buy it: Our Bengaluru showroom is set up so you can sit down and play, and compare against the alternatives in the room.
  • Advice from drummers: The team plays. Ask about sizes, heads, sticks, thrones, pedals and what will actually suit the room you play in.
  • Pan-India delivery: Shipped anywhere in India, packed for transit, with tracking from despatch to your door.
  • GST invoice and after-sales support: Full tax invoice on every order, and a service point in the city rather than a call centre.
