Evans Hydraulic Black Coated Snare — Oil-Dampened Power, Dark Aesthetic
The Evans Hydraulic Black Coated snare batter delivers the same internally dampened, oil-filled two-ply snare sound as the Hydraulic Red Coated, with a black coating on the top ply in place of the classic red. For drummers building an all-black or dark-finish kit, the Hydraulic Black provides the Hydraulic’s powerful, dry, ring-free snare crack in a finish that disappears visually into a monochrome setup.
The black coating adds a slight additional warming effect over the red equivalent — the tonal character is thick, punchy, and very controlled, with fast decay and minimal sustain. The oil fill ensures the dampening is perfectly even across the entire head, and the coated surface handles brush work acceptably for a head in this dampening class. An ideal choice for heavy rock, metal, and dark-aesthetic setups where a dry, powerful snare without any visual compromise is the goal.
