Remo Clear Encore Pinstripe 18″ Drum Head

Remo Encore Clear Pinstripe 18″ Drum Head (EN-0318-PS): Controlled Tone and Enhanced Durability

The Remo Encore Clear Pinstripe 18″ Drum Head (EN-0318-PS) is a two-ply drumhead from Remo’s “Encore” line, which is manufactured in Taiwan to provide a value-oriented alternative to their iconic American-made heads.1 This head is designed to deliver a controlled sound with reduced overtones and a quick decay, making it a popular choice for rock and pop drummers.2

Key Features for a Controlled, Focused Sound

The EN-0318-PS drumhead is engineered with specific attributes to deliver a consistent, high-performance sound:

• Two-Ply 7mil Mylar Film Construction: This head is constructed with two plies of 7mil Mylar film, giving it a total thickness of 14mil.3 This dual-ply design provides enhanced durability and a fat, full-bodied tone, capable of withstanding aggressive playing.

• Internal Overtone Reducing Agent: A key feature of the Pinstripe series is the thin band of reducing agent applied between the two plies.4 This agent acts as a built-in dampener, controlling unwanted overtones and shortening the sustain.5 On an 18-inch floor tom, this creates a deep, thuddy sound with a focused fundamental pitch.

• Clear Finish: The clear film produces a brighter, more open sound than coated heads, with an emphasis on attack.

• Controlled Sustain and Quick Decay: The internal pinstripe dampening provides a controlled sound with a quick decay. This makes the head ideal for genres where a tight, punchy sound is preferred over an open, resonant tone.

• Manufacturing Distinction: As with other Encore heads, the EN-0318-PS is manufactured in Remo’s Taiwan facility.6 The head is made using a crimped aluminum channel and a steel insert ring to secure the film, as opposed to the liquid-glue poured channel used on the American-made heads.7 While the sound is very similar, the crimped design is known to fatigue at a quicker pace.

• Ideal for a Wide Range of Genres: The controlled and durable nature of the Pinstripe head makes it a popular choice for genres like Pop, R&B, and Rock, where a focused, articulate, and powerful drum sound is desired.8

The Remo Encore Clear Pinstripe 18″ Drum Head (EN-0318-PS) is a solid and cost-effective option for drummers looking to achieve a classic Pinstripe sound for their 18-inch toms, providing a durable, controlled, and focused tone without the price point of the American-made version.
