Dunlop 6422 Intensive Cymbal Cleaner

Dunlop 6422 Intensive Cymbal Cleaner: Restore and Rejuvenate Tarnished Cymbals

The Dunlop 6422 Intensive Cymbal Cleaner is a powerful solution engineered to tackle heavy tarnish, corrosion, and embedded grime on cymbals, bringing back their original luster. Designed as a “pre-cleaner” or a standalone intensive treatment, it’s formulated to work deep into the metal, preparing the cymbal surface for a final polish or simply restoring its brilliance on its own. This product is a crucial tool for drummers looking to revive old, neglected, or heavily oxidized cymbals.

Key Features for Deep Cymbal Cleaning

The Dunlop 6422 Intensive Cymbal Cleaner is characterized by its strong cleaning power and specialized formula:

• Intensive Tarnish and Corrosion Removal: Its primary function is to aggressively clean and restore the finish of old, tarnished, or corroded cymbals. It targets stubborn oxidation that typical polishes might not fully remove.

• Rejuvenates Appearance: By breaking down and removing built-up dirt and tarnish, it effectively rejuvenates the overall appearance of the cymbal, restoring its shine and clarity.

• Prepares Surface for Polishing: While it delivers a significant shine on its own, it can also act as a preparatory step before using a milder, everyday cymbal cleaner/polish (like Dunlop’s 65 Cymbal Cleaner, Model 6434) to achieve the ultimate brilliant finish and protect against future tarnish.

• Specially Balanced for Cymbal Metals: The formula is designed to be effective on cymbal alloys (primarily bronze compositions like B20 and B8), ensuring it tackles tarnish without excessively harming the metal.

• Easy Application: Typically found in a convenient snap-cap dispenser or small squeeze bottle, it allows for controlled application directly onto the cymbal or a soft cloth. Users generally apply, rub, and then wipe clean or rinse.

• Restores Shine and Sound: By removing layers of residue and tarnish, it helps to restore the cymbal’s natural resonance and sparkle, allowing it to sound as intended.

Important Considerations:

• Abrasiveness: While effective, “intensive” cleaners often rely on some level of chemical action or fine abrasives. Drummers should be aware that repeated use of intensive cleaners can potentially wear down thin cymbal coats or remove printed logos.

• Patina: This cleaner is designed to remove tarnish. If you have cymbals with a desirable dark patina (e.g., traditional, unlathed finishes) that you wish to preserve, an intensive cleaner like this is not recommended, as it will strip that character away. It is best suited for brilliant-finish cymbals.

The Dunlop 6422 Intensive Cymbal Cleaner is a powerful solution for bringing heavily tarnished cymbals back to life, offering a deep clean that restores shine and clarifies the cymbal’s voice.
