Remo Skyndeep R-Series Calfskin Graphic Bongo Head 9″

Remo Skyndeep R-Series Bongo Head 9″ (M6-R900-S5-SD003): Authentic Feel and Durability for the Larger Bongo Drum

The Remo Skyndeep R-Series Bongo Head, with the model number M6-R900-S5-SD003, is a high-performance synthetic drumhead designed for the larger “hembra” drum of a set of bongos.1 Part of Remo’s R-Series for world percussion, this head provides an authentic, rich sound and feel that closely mimics traditional calfskin, but with the added benefits of Remo’s modern synthetic materials.2

The model number provides specific details: M6 for the Mondo series, R900 for the approximate 9-inch size (corresponding to a standard Hembra bongo), S5 for the Skyndeep film type, and SD003 indicating the Calfskin Graphic finish.

Key Features for Quality Sound and Durability

The M6-R900-S5-SD003 drumhead is engineered with specific attributes to deliver a consistent, high-performance sound:

• Skyndeep Calfskin Graphic Film: This head is not made from animal hide. It features Remo’s proprietary Skyndeep technology, which infuses a graphic pigment into a durable polyester surface.3 The “Calfskin Graphic” gives the head a classic, natural aesthetic without the high maintenance required by real animal skin.

• Weather-Resistant and Stable: Unlike traditional calfskin heads which are highly sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity, the Skyndeep film is weather-resistant.4 This ensures the head stays in tune and performs consistently in any environment, making it reliable for both indoor and outdoor performance.

• Warm Tones and High Projection: The Skyndeep material is designed to produce warm, rich, and authentic tones with excellent volume and projection.5 On the larger 9″ drum, it delivers a deeper fundamental tone with a lively slap.

• R-Series Collar Design: The “R-Series” refers to the head’s collar design, which features an aluminum “flesh hoop.” This collar is specifically designed to fit most “regular” full-size bongo drums from major manufacturers, including models from LP, Toca, and Gon Bops, which typically have an 8.5-inch or 9-inch drum size for the hembra.6 The 9″ head measurement corresponds to the “crown” or playing surface diameter.

• High-Quality Manufacturing: The head is constructed with Remo’s standard drum set head technology, ensuring a durable build that can withstand frequent and aggressive hand playing.7

The Remo Skyndeep R-Series Bongo Head (M6-R900-S5-SD003) is an excellent choice for any bongo player who wants the authentic sound and feel of a calfskin head without the hassle of a temperamental, maintenance-heavy material.
