Large-Hammered Brass for a Distinctive, Slightly Drier Sound.
Distinctive and slightly drier
The large-hammered shell produces a very distinctive, slightly drier sound than the standard Chrome over Brass snare, while keeping the attack and projection of brass.
Large-hammered brass shell
The 1.2mm brass shell is large-hammered and chrome-plated, with 45-degree bearing edges, giving the drum its striking hand-worked look.
4mm die-cast hoops
Heavy 4mm die-cast hoops and 10 lugs give firm, even tensioning and a focused rimshot.
Lightning throw-off, 42-strand wires
The Lightning throw-off works with 42-strand snare wires, and a Snap-In key holder keeps a drum key on the drum.
USA Custom Metal
The G4164HB is part of Gretsch's USA Custom Metal snare collection, a range of metal snares in a wide assortment of alloys, finishes and sizes, built in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
That Great Gretsch Sound — Since 1883
Gretsch has been making drums since 1883, when Friedrich Gretsch opened a small music shop in Brooklyn, New York, making banjos, drums and tambourines. Fred W. Gretsch, the founder’s great-grandson, later bought the company back and returned it to the family.
Gretsch drums have been played by Max Roach, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb and Charlie Watts, and its USA drums are built in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
