Mike Portnoy's 3-way Tension Adjustable Strainer locks into three positions: off, loose and tight. Switch between two snare wire tensions and snares off, all on the same drum, without the hassle of changing snare drums mid-song.
The 12"x5" hammered steel shell covers a wide tonal range. Tune it up for impressive snap on the top end, or bring it down lower, so it fits wherever you need a second snare voice.
The Melody Master is part of Mike Portnoy's Tama signature snare range, built as an ideal side snare for any style of music. Its compact 12-inch size sits easily next to your hi-hat or main snare.
The 1mm steel shell is hammered and finished in matte black, set off by chrome hardware and the Mike Portnoy Melody Master badge.
Six-hole die-cast hoops are denser and more consistent in shape than triple flanged hoops, so tuning is easier and more consistent. They also give a crisper attack, clear and resonant highs and more powerful rimshots.
Chrome Starclassic lugs hold the hoops, and 20-strand Starclassic carbon steel snare wires press closer to the snare head as you add tension, with redesigned end plates and thinner straps for optimum response.
The 12"x5" snare drum with heads and 20-strand snare wires fitted. A snare stand or mount and sticks are sold separately.
The MCS100A strainer locks into three positions: off, loose and tight. Loose and tight give two different snare wire tensions, so you get two snare sounds plus snares-off from one drum.
It is designed as a side snare, to sit alongside your main 14-inch snare.
