Big Yamaha Birch Tone. A Footprint Built for Small Spaces.
20×8 Bass Drum
A full 20-inch diameter produces the rich bass foundation expected from a regular kit, while the shallow 8-inch body saves valuable floor space and makes the drum substantially easier to transport.
13×8 Floor Tom with Snares
The 13-inch floor tom is fitted with 20-strand snares and a one-action throw-off. Switch it from a resonant floor tom to a deep auxiliary snare for jazz, pop, hip-hop, R&B and other contemporary styles.
A Compact Setting for Small Venues
The unusually shallow bass drum shortens the complete footprint, allowing Stage Custom Hip to fit rehearsal rooms, café stages and compact venues where a conventional acoustic kit would dominate the available space.
Adaptable for Home Practice
Fit separately sold mesh heads and practice cymbals for a near-silent home setup. Add an EAD10 or drum triggers—also sold separately—to turn the compact acoustic kit into a flexible hybrid rig.
Made to Travel with Yamaha HW3
Yamaha’s lightweight HW3 hardware set is the natural optional partner for Stage Custom Hip. Its portable design complements the compact shell pack while keeping stands stable and easy to carry. HW3 is not included.
Six-Ply 100% Birch Shells
The six-ply, 7.2mm shells use 100% birch—the material long associated with Yamaha drums—to combine a rich midrange voice with expressive shell resonance and clear acoustic response.
Yamaha Ball Mount & Clamp
Yamaha’s original ball mount locks a resin ball in its chromed housing with an ergonomic wing bolt, giving the rack tom accurate, stable positioning at virtually any playable angle.

Product FAQ
Is Stage Custom Hip the same as the full-size Stage Custom Birch?
No. Stage Custom Hip is a separate compact four-piece SBP0F4H configuration with a 20x8 bass drum and a convertible 13x8 floor tom.
What is included in the shell pack?
A 20x8 bass drum, 10x5 rack tom, 13x8 floor tom with 20-strand snares, 13x5 main snare and CL940LB tom holder.
How does the floor tom become a snare?
The 13x8 floor tom has 20-strand snare wires and a throw-off. A single action engages the wires so it can serve as a deep auxiliary snare.
Is Yamaha HW3 hardware included?
No. HW3 is Yamaha’s recommended lightweight companion hardware set, but it is sold separately.
Can Stage Custom Hip be used for quiet home practice?
Yes. Yamaha recommends separately sold mesh heads and practice cymbals for a near-silent setup. An EAD10 or triggers can also create a hybrid kit.
What are the shells made from?
100% birch in a six-ply, 7.2mm construction, with 45-degree/R1.5 bearing edges.
Do the three finish choices change the specification?
No. Natural Wood, Raven Black and Matte Surf Green share the same shell sizes, construction and included CL940LB holder.
