USA Custom Round Badge drums have formed the foundation of “That Great Gretsch Sound” for more than 70 years. Their controlled power, musical warmth and studio-ready definition make them a reference point for professional Gretsch kits.
Each shell uses Gretsch’s 6-ply maple/gum formula. The combination gives the drums a warm, full centre with clear articulation and enough projection to remain composed in a dense live or recorded mix.
The classic 30-degree bearing edge increases head-to-shell contact compared with a sharper modern edge. That relationship supports a round fundamental, familiar Gretsch warmth and a controlled decay.
Rugged 4 mm die-cast hoops add tuning stability and focus the shell’s response. They help rimshots speak with authority while keeping the note clean and consistent across a wide tuning range.
Gretsch finishes the inside of each USA Custom shell with its exclusive Silver Sealer. It is part of the line’s construction identity and the classic specification behind generations of recorded Gretsch drums.
Choose the shell sizes, mounting approach and hardware details that suit your playing. From compact jazz voices to commanding rock configurations, the order is built around one coherent musical brief.
Select from vintage-inspired Nitron wraps, understated satin treatments and premium gloss lacquers. Hand-rubbed stains and nitro-cellulose finishing techniques give the custom shop an unusually broad visual palette.
Use the TBDS pre-order enquiry to share how and where you play. Our team will help finalise the shell configuration, finish and hardware, then confirm the price and current factory lead time before processing the order.
Gretsch has been making drums since 1883, when Friedrich Gretsch opened a small music shop in Brooklyn, New York, making banjos, drums and tambourines. Fred W. Gretsch, the founder’s great-grandson, later bought the company back and returned it to the family.
Gretsch drums have been played by Max Roach, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb and Charlie Watts, and its USA drums are built in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
