You get the warmth of maple with the clarity of birch, so the kit sounds clean, articulate and well balanced, and every drum blends clearly with the next.
The die-cast hoops help the drums produce clear, punchy, full tones. Their rigid, precisely cast shape keeps the heads evenly seated, which makes tuning easier to set and hold, and gives you solid, consistent rimshots.
The Star-Cast Mounting System has long provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro drums. It holds the toms by the hoop rather than the shell, so they sustain freely, and its streamlined design lets you position the toms closer together for a more comfortable reach.
Both rack toms mount on the bass drum with the included MTH800 double tom holder. Its 10.5mm arms and ball-and-socket design give you multiple positions and locked-in stability, and Tama's single Swivel Wing rotates for exact, ergonomic placement.
A 22″x16″ bass drum, 10″x8″ and 12″x9″ rack toms, a 16″x14″ floor tom and a 14″x5.5″ snare: a classic configuration that covers most playing situations. The 16″-deep bass drum is a little more compact than the common 18″ depth, which makes it easier to move around.
The pack includes the matching MBSS55 snare drum in Dark Cherry Fade, with the same 6mm maple/birch shell as the toms. It comes fitted with an EVANS G1 coated batter head and an EVANS 300 snare-side head, ready for a crisp, sensitive snare sound.
The toms have EVANS G1 coated batter heads with Tama clear single-ply Power Craft II resonant heads, and the bass drum has an EVANS clear EQ4 batter head with a Tama resonant head and muffle ring. The kit sounds finished as soon as you tune it up, with no need to buy new heads first.
Dark Cherry Fade is one of the Starclassic Performer lacquer finishes: a rich cherry red that deepens to a dark edge, set off by chrome hardware and die-cast hoops for a classic, stage-ready look.
A 22″x16″ bass drum with tom holder base (MBSB22DM), a 10″x8″ tom (MBST10A), a 12″x9″ tom (MBST12A), a 16″x14″ floor tom (MBSF16A), the MTH800 double tom holder, and a matching 14″x5.5″ snare drum (MBSS55), all in Dark Cherry Fade with EVANS and Tama heads fitted. Cymbals, stands, pedals and a throne are not included.
The bass drum has a tom holder base, and both rack toms mount on it with the included MTH800 double tom holder. You do not need a separate tom stand.

The 6-piece MBS52RZS adds a 14″x12″ floor tom and uses 10″x7″ and 12″x8″ rack toms mounted with MC69 single tom attachments, with no tom holder on the bass drum. This 5-piece has deeper 10″x8″ and 12″x9″ toms on the MTH800 double tom holder.
