Roland VAD516 V-Drums Acoustic Design Electronic Drum Kit

Pro-level performance, full-depth wood shells, and next-generation digital pad technology

The Roland VAD516 is the flagship five-piece electronic drum set in the V-Drums 5 Series, combining the commanding look and feel of full-depth wood shells with Roland’s most advanced digital pad sensors. Powered by the next-gen V51 module—featuring a multi-sampled sound engine developed in collaboration with Drum Workshop (DW)—the kit includes the PD-14DSX digital snare, VH-14D digital hi-hats, CY-18DR digital ride, and a 20-inch KD-20-MS wood kick drum. Wrapped in a striking Midnight Sparkle finish and supported by heavy-duty double-braced chrome stands, the VAD516 delivers total dynamic nuance, Roland Cloud wireless expansion, and seamless DAW integration.

V51 Sound Module — Next-Gen DW Collaboration & Roland Cloud Expansion

Driven by the flagship sound architecture derived from Roland’s top-tier engines, the V51 module introduces a multi-sampled sound library crafted alongside Drum Workshop (DW). Featuring a large color display, deep studio-grade editing tools (tuning, muffling, head types, reverbs, EQ, compression), and built-in wireless connectivity, drummers can instantly download instrument expansions and kit packs via the Roland Cloud Connect app or integrate directly with the DW Soundworks software instrument.

Full-Depth Wood Shells in Midnight Sparkle — Acoustic Stage Command

The VAD516 features full-depth wooden drum shells—a 10″ rack tom (PDA100-MS), 12″ rack tom (PDA120-MS), 14″ floor tom (PDA140F-MS), and a 20″ kick drum (KD-20-MS)—wrapped in a glossy Midnight Sparkle finish. The full-size shells deliver the exact spatial rebound, acoustic feel, and visual gravity expected of a high-end stage setup.

Next-Gen Digital Pads — PD-14DSX Snare, VH-14D Hi-Hat & CY-18DR Ride

Roland’s multi-element digital pads set the global standard for expression. The 14-inch PD-14DSX digital snare features hand-position detection, cross-stick sensing, an active throw-off switch, and an LED control indicator. The VH-14D digital hi-hats provide continuous open/closed resolution and touch muting, while the CY-18DR digital ride delivers effortless bow, bell, edge triggering, and choke capability without false triggers.

Robust Studio I/O & Multi-Channel USB-C Recording

Built for professional environments, the V51 module features a mono/stereo main output, two assignable direct audio outputs, four analog auxiliary trigger inputs for kit expansion, an analog mix input, and USB-C multi-channel audio/MIDI functionality. Drummers can record multi-track drum stems directly into macOS/Windows DAWs with a single cable.

Premium Double-Braced Chrome Hardware & Practice Tools

The kit comes complete with heavy-duty chrome hardware, including two DCS-30 combination stands, a DBS-30 boom stand, and a PDS-5 module stand. Integrated skill-building features include an advanced Coach mode (Phrase Trainer, Stroke Monitor), SD card audio recording, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a 6-month Roland Cloud Ultimate membership with access to 100 free Melodics lessons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the snare stand, hi-hat stand, and kick pedal included with the VAD516?

No. The kit package includes the double-braced tom/cymbal combination stands and boom stands, but the snare drum stand, hi-hat stand, kick drum pedal, drum throne, and SD card are sold separately so you can choose your preferred hardware models.

How do the digital pads differ from standard analog trigger pads?

Roland’s digital pads (PD-14DSX snare, VH-14D hi-hat, CY-18DR ride) connect via high-speed USB digital inputs on the module. They utilize multi-element sensor processing to detect hand positioning, palm muting, cross-sticking, and subtle dynamic velocity without trigger lag or hot-spotting.

Does the VAD516 include DW Soundworks software?

Yes. The V51 module integrates seamlessly with DW Soundworks software for computer-based playing, accessible through the included 6-month Roland Cloud Ultimate membership.

Can I expand the kit with additional pads or cymbals?

Yes. In addition to the three dedicated digital pad inputs, the V51 module features 4 auxiliary analog trigger inputs (AUX 1–3 and CRASH 2) for adding extra pads, cymbal triggers, or BT-1 bar triggers.
