Uno 22″ Resonant Drumhead

Evans Uno by Evans EQ Black 22-inch Bass Drum Head (UBD22RB): Pre-Dampened Punch and Controlled Sustain

The Evans Uno by Evans EQ Black 22-inch Bass Drum Head (UBD22RB) is a single-ply bass drumhead that belongs to the “Uno by Evans” line, indicating it’s designed to offer Evans’ sound quality and consistency, often for specific international markets. This head is designed with an internal muffling ring (like the “EQ” series) to provide pre-dampened punch, controlled sustain, and reduced overtones, making it an excellent choice for drummers seeking a tight, focused bass drum sound right out of the box.

Key Features for Focused Bass Drum Sound

The UBD22RB drumhead is engineered with specific attributes to deliver a consistent, high-performance sound:

• Single-Ply Film Construction: While the exact mil thickness isn’t always specified for the “Uno by Evans” series as precisely as the main lines (like EQ3 which is 10mil), it’s generally a medium-to-thin single ply designed for resonance with controlled dampening. This allows for a good balance of attack and controlled boom.

• Internal Overtone Control Ring (EQ Series Design): This is the key feature that defines the “EQ” part of its name. An internal ring of material is incorporated into the drumhead, typically near the edge. This ring flexes with the head, subtly dampening unwanted overtones and shortening the sustain, resulting in a more focused, “thumpier” sound without needing external muffling.

• Black Finish: The black aesthetic provides a sleek and professional look to the bass drum. While not having a significant sonic impact compared to clear, it offers a visual preference for many drummers.

• Pre-Dampened Sound: The built-in muffling ring means the head is “pre-EQ’d,” offering a consistent, punchy sound with reduced ring and a quick decay. This is highly desirable for live performance and recording where a tight bass drum is preferred.

• Enhanced Sensitivity and Articulation: Despite the dampening, the head is designed to allow for good sensitivity, ensuring that each beater stroke is clearly articulated. This means the low-end punch is there without becoming muddy.

• Level 360 Technology: Like most modern Evans heads, the Uno by Evans series incorporates Level 360 Technology. This innovative collar design ensures a perfectly level fit on the drum shell’s bearing edge, maximizing contact all around the drum. This results in easier tuning, an extended pitch range, and optimized sound quality and response across all tension points.

• Designed for Emerging Markets: The “Uno by Evans” series leverages high-quality films (often the same as Evans’ USA-made products) but sometimes features a crimped collar design and packaging optimized for specific international markets where cost-effectiveness and consistency are key considerations.

• Manufacturing Origin: While Evans’ core lines are typically Made in USA, some “Uno by Evans” products have been noted to be manufactured in other locations, such as China, maintaining Evans’ hallmark consistency and sound quality.

The Evans Uno by Evans EQ Black 22-inch Bass Drum Head (UBD22RB) is a practical and effective choice for drummers seeking a pre-dampened, punchy bass drum sound with a controlled sustain and a sleek black appearance, offering reliable performance for various musical settings.
