Tama developed this hybrid shell to combine the best properties of two woods:

• Birch: Provides a sharp, defined attack and clear, higher-frequency projection.

• Walnut: Adds a layer of firm, warm low-to-mid frequency tone, giving the drums a sweet, mellow punch.

• Tom Toms, Floor Toms, Snare Drum: 6mm, 6-ply (4 plies of Birch + 2 inner plies of American Black Walnut)

• Bass Drum: 8mm, 7-ply (5 plies of Birch + 2 inner plies of American Black Walnut)

2. Hardware and Accessories

The Starclassic line is renowned for its high-end features designed to maximize shell resonance and tuning stability:

• Finish: Satin Sapphire Fade (SPF)—a beautiful lacquer finish that allows the grain of the wood to show through, with a deep blue fade.

• Hoops: Die-Cast Zinc Hoops on all toms and snare. These provide consistent, easier tuning and a crisper, more focused attack with powerful rimshots.

• Mounting System: Star-Cast Mounting System (Aluminum for lighter weight and enhanced resonance) on all rack Toms.

• Quick-Lock Tom Brackets: Allows for quick setup and teardown while using rubber lining to further isolate the drums from the stands.

• Floor Tom Legs: Air Cushioned Floor Tom Legs with special rubber feet to eliminate vibration transfer to the floor.

• Heads: Comes fitted with Evans® Drum Heads (typically Genera G2 Clear on tom/floor tom batters and Genera EQ4 Clear on the bass drum batter).
